Why use masking fluid? There are many uses for masking fluid, but it is mainly used to preserve the white of the paper in watercolor.   Though I rarely use masking fluid, there are times when I do apply it for areas that I don't want to paint around, such as sunlit branches in front of a bird or whiskers on a cat; or in the case of this European Starling, which is covered in dazzling white spots.
