I've had negative painting on my mind lately as I begin to prepare for upcoming workshops that I'll be teaching in the coming months. I've prepared a short video which not only introduces this technique to the novice, but also shares a simple solution to unwanted hard edges. In the presentation below, I demonstrate how to paint around a simple blossom shape, leaving hard edges around the bloom but soft edges everywhere else. One of my favorite ways to prevent unwanted hard edges is by using a fine mist squirt bottle which ensures nice soft edges with beautiful gradations.
